Gaïa, which represents “Mother Earth”, is carved out of white marble by Anne Podbielski whose aim is to transform her art into a timeless homeware piece, integrating art into everyday life. After moving to Portugal, Anna decided to give “Gaia” a second life by reforging her in ceramic, associating the purity of the line to the imperfection artisanal tradition. This timeless piece can be filled with flowers or simply exposed as it is.

Anna collaborates with some of the best local ceramists in Caldas da Rainha, in the centre of Portugal, to create high-quality vases, producing them by small quantity.

Is the female body vase handmade?

This ceramic vase is 100% handcrafted with love and care. Due to the handmade production they have some slight discrepancies in shape or colors. These variations are not considered defects. This is what makes the handmade pieces special and unique.

How is produced the female ceramic vase?

The first step is the filling. It consists of cementing the liquid ceramic paste into a plaster cast. The water contained in the paste is absorbed by the plaster, while the rest of the mixture solidifies on the surface of the mold. The artisan then carefully removes the clay from the mold and lets it dry in the ambient air. Then, the piece is cooked into a 1000 degrees oven. The clay loses moisture and plasticity, to become white and rigid, creating the ideal texture to absorb the glaze. In the end, the process involves coating the vase with a liquid which works as a filter and colour. The piece returns to the oven for the last time, where the glaze merges with the clay and reveals the colour and sparkle of its surface.

Can I return the female body vase?

The Female ceramic vase is made to order and produced according to your specific choices of color. Therefore, we are unable to offer a refund or an exchange once the order has been made.

Can I exchange the ceramic vase for another colour?

As long as the order has not been in production, it can be modified. Please ask you to reach out as soon as possible to webshop@damportugal.com with your order number so we can help you in the best way.
